The Beauty Of Hunting And Fishing

The great outdoors can be so relaxing. Please don’t disagree if you’ve never given it a go. You definitely need to experience Mother Nature before dismissing it as bothersome or annoying. It’s imperative to get the full-on dose at the right time of year. Of course the right season varies from person to person.

For me it’s fall, but for others it could be spring or winter time. Yes, I did mention winter time. Although it may be chilly, you can appreciate the fact that mosquitoes and ticks won’t eat you alive like they will in the summer. So then there’s camping, hunting and fishing. These are the epitome of outdoor activities. Especially if you’re heading up through the woods. It’s not all about nature hikes and rock climbing.

The entire time I grew up in the rural area of Iowa, my father was an officer of hunting and fishing. A game warden for short. Now, I know what you’re thinking. Iowa has no rural area in particular; the entire state is rural. In fact, it’s one gargantuan corn field. This is what a buddy of mine thought anyway. Once I moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, folks thought I was from the back woods. My buddy actually asked me if we were the only house in Iowa. Wow, are people ever naive! Iowa is a state; not a corn field. Anyway, I certainly received my dose of hunting and fishing while living in the heartland.

Anything from deer hunting with a shotgun, to bass fishing on the Mississippi, to turkey hunting with a long bow. I was able to experience a range of hunting and fishing activities. However, I did grow tired of the hunting part. These days I no longer care to sit quietly in a tree stand and wait for a massive buck to stroll past. Fishing on the other hand is still outstanding. I think it’s the fresh trout that I love so much.

Definitely take the time to learn all about camping, hunting and fishing before tackling them on your own. Find out what supplies are imperative and what seasons will work best. And always remember that with hunting and fishing comes responsibilities. You can’t simply run out in the woods and start gunning down deer like it’s no big thing. There are rules to this sport. Follow them respectfully and you’ll have a great time.

Guide To Freshwater Fishing

For a lot of people, ocean fishing is the ultimate thrill. You see, nowadays more people grow up around lakes and rivers than around the ocean. Freshwater fishing is something that we all take for granted. With most lakes and rivers, you can stand on the shore, wade out in the water, or even take a boat with relative safety. The ocean, however, means adventure.

The biggest freshwater fish do not compare to some of those monsters they have in the ocean, and even some of the worst storms on the great lakes are nothing compared to how things can get on the ocean when the weather turns rotten. Ocean fish often have lower concentrations of mercury and other contaminants, making them safer to eat in large quantities than many freshwater fish. Nonetheless, for my money, freshwater fishing is still a better activity. Nothing in the world beats it.

Of course, I might be a little bit sentimental because of how I was raised. You might say that freshwater fishing is in my blood. My father was an excellent fly fisherman, and in fact he made a lot of money giving fly fishing tours and selling fishing equipment to both locals and tourists from out of town. Although we were taught to look down on line fishing, we still did a fair amount from time to time.

Fly fishing is great, but there is so much variety to freshwater fishing that it is a shame to limit yourself to just one activity. Although the actual fishing isn’t exactly as exciting, lake fishing still has some advantages over fishing in a stream. There is nothing like spending a day out on the water, casting off again and again from a boat as the waves gently rock you.

One of the greatest things about freshwater fishing is that you don’t need an expert to guide you. If you are going fishing in the ocean, you definitely need some expert advice. Just staying safe can be difficult on the ocean! With small lakes and rivers, by contrast, the worst you will do is not catch any fish. And while things look more or less the same once you are out on the ocean, every mile of a lake or river is different. When you go on a freshwater fishing trip, you have an opportunity to seem some of the best scenery anywhere. And all that while catching delicious fish!

The Popularity Of Fishing

Fishing is a popular sport among individuals of all classes, races, ages, and sexes. Whether your passion is for saltwater fishing off of a yacht or fishing in the creek that runs behind your home, the pastime has remained a popular one throughout the ages. For generations, people have been using the pastime as a way to bond with each other, teach youngsters about life and responsibility, and provide relaxation from the pace of a hectic life.

The Equipment

The equipment needed to participate in the sport is called fishing tackle. Tackle typically consists of a rod, reel, line, hooks, sinkers, and bobbers. The rod, or fishing pole, is basically a straight piece of slightly flexible metal with line guides attached to it. The reel is attached to the rod near the bottom using special attachments imbedded in the reel. This is used for casting and reeling in the catch while fishing. The line comes in spools of different strengths. The line is wound around the inside of the reel and through the line guides of the pole, after which any other needed items such as the sinker, hook, and bobber are added.

The hooks come in different sizes for trying to catch different types of fish. Sinkers are used to weight down the line in the water and are needed to catch bottom dwelling fish such as catfish. The bobber is basically a buoyant colorful item that rests on top of the water, but will be pulled under if the fish takes the bait. There are many varieties of these items available for purchase, with some being manufactured specifically to catch a particular type of fish. The infinite variety of combinations of tackle causes some fishermen to have tackle boxes the size of small suitcases.

Types Of Fishing

One of the most popular types of fishing in the United States is bass fishing. There are many people who have dedicated a great portion of their life and money to the pursuit of a trophy bass. The sport is so popular in the United States that there are even video games dedicated to the sport where your can practice your technique and pull trophy bass out of a virtual lake. There are many contests for bass fishermen held in lakes and rivers all over the country with prize money of up to $50,000 being awarded to the biggest and best catch

Tournament fishing can occur on lakes, rivers, bays, or in the ocean. The purpose of this sport is to catch either the largest amount or the biggest of a certain type of fish within a designated time period. Many fishermen take this sport very seriously and some even train for the event for months before participating. The love of fishing encompasses all types of people and provides good clean fun for all. And that is what fishing is all about.
